Name: Obyr
Age: 53
Residence: Farmcraft Hall (SRH)

Craft: Farmcraft
Craft Rank: Master

Brief Description of Persona:

  • Obyr is a likable man. He always seems to be happy which makes him approachable considering his size. Standing at 6'6 and weighing in at close 300 pounds, Obyr is a physical oddity on Pern. He has short brown hair which he likens to the color of freshly turned earth, and light brown eyes he prefers to say are the color of autumn leaves. As for looks he is average if not even plain to the point that if he were not such a big man you'd never notice him in a crowd. He smiles readily and laughs often. He learned early in life that his size is intimidating and scary, which is why he has cultivated such an outgoing personality. Children are never scared of him for some reason. Quite the opposite he finds that children are drawn to him. He wears non descript brown and green clothing so that the dirt and sweat don't show as readily.

    Brief History of Persona:

  • Obyr went to the southern end of the Northern Continent to apprentice in his chosen craft, that of farming. He was obsessed with growing things even as a young child. It was frustrating for him when winter came and nothing would grow. His parents, who were Miners, were even more frustrated that thier giant child showed more interest in green things instead of mining as they had hoped he would. Although Obyr tried to apprentice in the mining craft it was immediately apparent that it was not for him on his first trip down into a mine. He had hardly gone 50 feet into the mine when he suffered the worst attack of claustrophobia that the Master miner had ever witnessed in his life. Obyr was sent home with the warning that by under _no_ circumstances was this boy _EVER_ go underground again. It took Obyr close to a Turn to recover from his attack. His parents then let him apprentice at the Farmcraft Hall. Once he walked the tables he set out to work his way up to Master rank. On achieving his Hallsecond position he had two priorities, get married and head to the Southern Continent where the growing season was all Turn round. Obyr married a woman 15 years his junior. He was 40 when he asked Dyrisa to marry him. She was a woman whom people said Obyr would never stand a chance of marrying. She was the most beautiful woman in the area and had turned down every proposal. When Obyr walked up to her farmhouse door with a bouquet of flowers he had grown him self, she looked at him with a serious face and said,"I am going to ask you one question and one question only. If you answer it correctly I will marry you. If not you will go home a bachelor like the rest of my suitors." Obyr stood his ground and told her to ask away! Darysa's question was simple. "What are 3 good reasons why I would want to marry you?" The big man stood quiet for a minute and then looked down at the redheaded beauty and said, "I'll make you laugh, I'll make you cry, but most of all I will love you with all my heart." Darysa turned into her house and left Obyr standing in the open doorway. She returned several minutes later with her belongings in 2 bags and she pointed to a trunk and said "That is coming as well." And from that day on Obyr and Darysa have been together, and as promised Obyr has made her laugh, cry and other things...but he has loved her more than life itself. Several years after spending time as a hall second in the North word came that there was an opening in the south and Obyr put in for a transfer. Soon he and Darysa were on a ship heading south.

E-mail Michele if you'd like, I'm sure she'd love to hear from you!
