Name: Vaqueli Age: 31 Residence: Sandstone River Hold Craft: Farmcraft Craft Rank: Senior Journeyman
Pet Type: Bronze Fire Lizard Pet Name: Dover
Brief Description of Persona:
A fairly perfect specimen of a man, Vaqueli was blessed with his looks by good genetics - something most of the Blood families of Pern have in excess. Tall, at 6'4, blonde, blue eyed, tanned and muscular, there's really very few faults to his appearance. Well, there might be, if you mind his work-callused hands and the constant mess he makes of his clothes from farmcrafting on a daily basis. He keeps his hair cropped short, where it stubbornly spikes up from his scalp, despite efforts to keep it slicked down. This only emphasized his strong, patrician features, including a roman nose, which is slightly crooked from a barfight on his trip south.
To look at him, one would probably think he is a pampered pretty boy. While that was once true, and Vaqueli still takes full advantage of a restday as well as doing more than his fair share of primping, he has learned the meaning of work, and doesn't mind pulling his weight at the Hall. He does have a pessimistic streak, and can be inordinately stubborn, but he has a natural flair for leadership and can be relied upon to complete projects on time and have them done well. He is easily provoked, and has quite the temper if someone punches his buttons. Vaqueli also has an irrational fear of holds, which he dismisses to others as claustrophobia, but is really fears from his past coming to catch up with him.
Brief History of Persona:
Born the son of the Lord Varian and Lady Quenaila Holder of High Reaches Hold, Vaqueli was raised to be his older brother Ean's right hand man - even when that role didn't suit him at all. The last thing he wanted was to play second fiddle to Ean's quiet, easily manipulated personality. All through his childhood, Vaqueli initiated a rivalry between them, that to his parents amusement, Ean never reciprocated. He was secure in his position and Varian was pleased to see that he never rose to his younger brother's baiting.
As Vaqueli, Ean, and their younger siblings grew, there were always problems at High Reaches. As one of the wealthier holds, due to the mining industry in the area, there were always raids by the holdless, ambushed caravans, and other such instances. Not only that, there was some stress between his parents, although he never could figure out exactly what was between them. They were private people and had very little contact with their children outside of formal occasions. Otherwise they were left to their lessons and after that, allowed to do as they liked with minimal supervision.
When he was 14, something happened to make his parents rue their decision to let the children run wild around High Reaches: A band of holdless scum kidnapped his youngest sister Riquen. His father gathered his guards and some of the local cotholders and went hunting. After two sevendays, they found the band and attacked, intending to rescue the girl, only to find most of the band gone, and Riquen's body dumped in the back of a cave.
Hearing the news of his sister's death, Vaqueli had words with his parents, as it was his belief it was their fault she was dead - they'd done nothing to protect her from the kidnappers. It could have happened to any of them, as little as people paid attention to them, he argued. After his parents dismissed him and his concern, he left the hold, hiding in an abandoned mine up in the hills that no one knew about. It turned out to be a lucky choice for him. Little did anyone know at the time, that the rest of the missing pack of holdless were all laying in various places in the woods, dead from plague. When the guards brought the body back to High Reaches, they infected all the residents, even the cotholders. Within a week, everyone at High Reaches was dead, from the babies to the grannies and everyone in between.
Returning home to find this scene, he took what money he could find in his parent's coffers and took off, hoping he hadn't caught any of the germs during his few minutes in the hold. He headed south, doing his best to look like some commoner boy rather than what he was. By whatever luck, he managed to stumble onto a branch of the farmcraft hall, set well out and away from the closest hold. Making a choice for himself, Vaqueli stayed there, apprenticed, and made an attempt to start a new life. The only downfall was that going into any type of hold from that point forward brought back nightmares of finding everyone he knew dead at High Reaches.
Turns later, he has resigned himself to the fact that he will never be able to comfortably enter a hold. Vaqueli's life with the farmcrafters has been quiet, he walked the tables to journeyman and then to senior with no trouble at all. It was only in the past turn that he was finally transferred out to another Hall, this one on Southern at Sandstone River Hold.
Brief Description of Pet:
Dover is an average sized bronze flit, almost nothing about the way he looks is interesting until he spreads his wings. They are considerably longer than awerage for a bronze fire lizzard. And their colour is unusual. Ranging from yellowy bronze to greenish with hints of pink with underlying bronze tones his wings are by far some of the most beautifull around.
He personality is nothing like his human. Dover likes to be the centre of attentiln and is always trying to get people to notice him, wether by helping of bothering them it doesn't matter. He does not intentionally cause trouble but sometimes his eagerness to be involved with things can cause an unwanted up-roar. The end result is often an upset little bronze flit who sulks in the corner, because he got into trouble again, kind of like a small child. But in general he is a gentle flit, who likes to be around others.
